Punctuation Marks

The full stop (.), comma (,), apostrophe (‘), and question mark (?) are the most common punctuation marks in English. These punctuation marks are used more in writing, although they can be evident when you speak. For instance, when speaking, a long pause signifies a full stop, which is represented by “.” when writing.

A short pause while speaking is known as a comma and can be represented as “,.” In addition, a high pitch after a statement often signifies a question, which is represented as “?” in writing. During communication, an apostrophe is apparent when one or more letters are omitted while still conveying the intended message. Apostrophes are represented as (‘), but without the parenthesis.

Punctuation marks are important when communicating, and they are a crucial part of grammar.
