Apostrophe

When one or more letters are omitted from a sentence but it still retains its meaning, an apostrophe can be used to show the omission.

For example:

  • I’m a soldier.
  • He’s a soldier.
  • We aren’t coming.
  • We’re brothers.
  • She isn’t married.
  • They’re friends.

In addition, “that is” can be written as “that’s,” “here is” can be written as “here’s,” and “there is” can be represented as “there’s.”
